About Ingrid

Hola!

I’m Ingrid — a teacher, tutor and writer with almost 20 years working in different educational settings. I have taught at universities, primary and secondary schools, and in both private and state education.

I am originally from Spain, and I have lived and worked in the UK for the last 14 years. I have always loved languages and literature, so I got qualified to teach Modern Foreign Languages in the UK.

During this time, I have supported students of all ages in developing their language skills and overcoming the challenges of learning a new language.

English is my second language, but I have also learned (and am still learning) French and Portuguese.

What I have seen

In schools, students preparing for school exams often feel lost under pressure, mark schemes and target grades. Sometimes they know what they need to achieve, but they don’t have clear, structured feedback on how to get there and fix their specific weaknesses to turn practice into good results. Language mastery sometimes does not suffice to pass the test because of the lack of exam strategies.

With younger learners, early exposure is key, but traditional schooling often falls short. Without compulsory, in-depth language programs in the primary curriculum, early Spanish lessons in school can remain superficial—missing a vital window to build genuine, long-term fluency.

I have also seen parents in the UK struggling to teach their bilingual children because home practice can feel like a chore, leading kids to disengage from their heritage and engage in English by default.

What I do

I tutor children in KS2, KS3 and KS4 and also adults who want to learn Spanish for specific purposes, either if it’s general conversation, business or developing a new skill.

I can support with:

  • Spanish KS1 & 2 (primary level): vocabulary learning strategies, listening, speaking, reading and writing, with a strong focus on pronunciation and phonetics.

  • Spanish KS3 (years 7-9): Strong foundations to excel at GCSE.

  • Spanish KS4: Strong focus on exam techniques and GCSE exam preparation.

  • Spanish KS5:  Strong focus on literature, essay writing and A-Level exam preparation.

  • Official Cervantes exams: Divided into six categories: A1 Breakthrough, A2 Waystage, B1 Threshold, B2 Vantage, C1 Effective Operational Proficiency, and C2 Mastery.

  • University students in language degrees who want to improve their language skills and need a bit of practice.

  • Brush-up your Spanish course: short courses targeted to specific purposes. Holiday, business, conversation etc.

  • Writing & Literary Analysis in Spanish: Read contemporary literature, break down short texts by acclaimed authors, and craft your own original stories or performance pieces. Perfect for intermediate and advanced learners looking to boost their confidence, expand their expressive vocabulary, and develop their creative voice in a foreign language.

  • Spanish for Creative voices and Storytellers: you may be an actor preparing a script, a writer shaping dialogue or an artist planning a residency abroad. As a creative writer myself I offer tailored high-level language coaching focused on storytelling, nuance, culture and natural authentic expression.

My Approach

My approach consists of tailored sessions depending on your stage and purpose.

For adults and advanced learners, I integrate art, music, history and current affairs into our lessons. The idea is to build authentic vocabulary and foster critical thinking in Spanish. I use contemporary topics adapted to your level to trigger meaningful conversation and provide a real-world context and cultural immersion.

For children in primary education, the sessions will be play-based and dynamic.  I use interactive games, catchy songs, and storytelling to naturally boost pronunciation, encourage repetition, and make vocabulary stick without pressure.

For exam students, my approach is deliberate and results-driven. My lessons are targeted to exam preparation, and we work through regular mock papers, identify weak areas, and use tailored lessons and scaffolded teaching to transform those gaps into strengths. Hence, you step into your exam with confidence.
